I am writing in regards to an academic project I am undertaking examining
issues to be considered in developing a contingency plan for dealing with
windthrown timber and site remediation. Specific concerns include the
preservation of the economically valuable timber - irrigation versus cut and
store sawtimber. Does anyone know of any resources available for
determining the cost of installing an irrigation system, the
cost-benefits of such a system or other alternatives for managing the
downed timber. Also, I would be interested to hear about any other
concerns others may deem important. Basically I am trying to develop a
prioritized list of those steps a forest manager should take immediately
after a catastrophic disturbance. I appreciate your time and assistance.
Sincerely
Ted Wickwire
