E-CONFERENCE: URBAN FORESTRY IN DEVELOPING COUNRTIES



FIRST CALL: ELECTRONIC CONFERENCE: URBAN FORESTRY IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

TREE CITY initiative, a special urban forestry and arboricultural program with
focus on developing countries is preparing two Electronic Conferences entitled
 Urban forestry in developing counties  - Better livability through productive
and protective trees  - (1st Conference: May to July 1996, 2nd Conference:
January to February 1997).
Objectives
The overall objective of the E-Conference  Urban forestry in developing
countries  is to assist in improving the urban environment on a sustainable
basis in developing countries, with special attention to the needs and
contributions of women and vulnerable social groups whose quality of life and
participation in development has been hampered.
The immediate purpose of the FIRST E-CONFERENCE with the subtitle  Initiatives
and actions  is: (i) to promote the exchange of ideas and information on
subjects relevant to urban forestry in developing countries; (ii) to raise the
visibility of urban forestry as a development tool; (iii) to make people aware
of what work is being done and of useful references (resource materials); (iv)
to develop a list of major fields of action to be looked into in the Second
E-Conference.
The SECOND E-CONFERENCE, with the subtitle  The way ahead , aims:  (i) to share
in-depth experience in and knowledge about urban forestry activities in
developing countries; (ii) to analyze constraints and assess the potential for
multipurpose urban forestry; (iii) to evaluate urban forestry related experience
throughout the world and its applicability to local conditions in developing
countries; (iv) to identify gaps where there is currently a lack of information;
(iv) to formulate recommendations for future support of urban forestry in
development cooperation.
