                 Faculty of Forestry

                   URBAN FORESTRY

Applications are invited for the position of assistant professor in Urban
Forestry at the Faculty of Forestry, University of Toronto, commencing on
July 1st, 1996, or as soon thereafter as possible. This is a
contractually-limited term appointment for an initial period of two years,
but a future tenure-stream appointment is possible.

The successful candidate will be expected to play a central role in the
urban forest conservation stream in the new Master of Forest Conservation
programme and to participate actively in graduate teaching and supervision.
Commitment to vigorous activity in research and funding-raising for
research support are also expected.

While the central focus of the position is urban forestry, this is interpreted
broadly to include forest management throughout the zone of urban
influence. The Faculty is particularly interested in candidates who
combine expertise in urban forestry with related interests in management of
dispersed private or public woodlands in agricultural or abandoned lands,
in hardwood silviculture, forest genetics, or in biomass production from
fast-growing plantations. The successful candidate will be expected to
interact closely with other divisions at the University of Toronto involved
in urban and regional land management, both in Canada and abroad. These include
the Faculty of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, the Department of
Geography, the Centre for Urban and Community Studies, and the Institute for
Environmental Studies.

Applications accompanied by a detailed curriculum vitae and the names of three
referees should be submitted by April 15th to:
