Dear colleagues, Following information and translations are provided by Treemail, who herewith issue full disclaimer and refer readership to original sources. Please send replys or comments to the list or to the central database on this subject at: jcenteno@ciens.ula.ve Elsevier Magazine today states (excerpt): "Flor y Fauna is the first teakplatation that supposedly has received a certificate issued by the socalled Forest Stewardship Council, FSC. The claim is important, for such a certificate would furnish the project with the essential credibility. In addition, WWF-NL has made swift certification conditional to joining the programme. All the more painful to mother organization WWF and WWF-NL that, as it appears now, the claim is untrue. OHRA, Flor y Fauna, nor any other party involved can claim an FSC issued certificate. Sailiant detail: WWF is one of the main sponsors of the FSC." [end of excerpt] FSC Ecexutive Director Tim Synnott's planned visit NL on 19 and 20 February 1996 is anticipated. TS has communicated to Treemail's office that arrangements with Friends of the Earth NL (Vereniging Milieudefensie) have been made for "a problem solving meeting with any of those involved in this mess, including OHRA and WWF and the press".
