In the Netherlands we have an ongoing controversy over projected returns for teak plantations in Costa Rica that are sold here by the insurance company called OHRA. This investment scheme is endorsed by the WWF Netherlands Office, which leads to sensitivity of the subject, and to substantial amounts invested by those sympathetic to their cause. The situation calls for neutral and reliable information to sort out the matter; for those involved, for the investors, and for the general public. The Directorate General for International Cooperation DGIS (part of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs) seems to be ideally placed to do just that. However, it appears that their Costa Rica based sector specialist (a senior forester with over 10 years of in-region experience) has received an official red code on the subject. This is an order to remain silent. > Does anyone on the list have more information on this, or an explanation? Please give your comment on the list.
