Agroforest Inventory Workshop, Oct. 96. India. Call for Papers

Please see enclosed call for papers. Gyde

1-3 October 1996. RESOURCE INVENTORY TECHNIQUES TO SUPPORT AGROFORESTRY AND
ENVIRONMENT ACTIVITIES. Chandigarh, India. Organized and sponsored by Dayanand
National Academy of Environmental Sciences (DNAES), IUFRO S 4.02.01, and the
International Society of Tropical Foresters, Inc. An urgent need to strengthen
the multiuse land management approach through agroforestry systems is never
disputed. However in the absence of suitable diagnostics and evaluation of the
technology and its impact, it has not been able to receive adequate
recognition, wider use and better implementation. Lack of resource inventory
techniques and environmental considerations to support the system seems to be
the major obstacle towards its adoption on a wider scale.

During the recently concluded IUFRO World Congress in Finland, an urgent need
to develop a package of information on Resource Inventory for Agroforestry for
world wide adoption was strongly felt.

The objectives of this conference are as follows:

     1. To diagnose and design traditional and man-made agroforestry systems
     through resource inventory and modeling.

     2. To prepare inventory of trees and agricultural crops and other plants
and animals best suited for agroforestry systems under different climatic
     regions.

     3. To identify lands suitable for agroforestry systems.

     4. To identify systems and evaluation parameters for better land management
     for environmental and economic considerations.

     5. To devise linking of monitoring and assessment to the planning and
execution of action for sustainable development.

This international meeting will provide a useful opportunity of discussing the
problems, finding solutions, sharing scientific and professional observations,
news and views amongst a galaxy of scientists, managers, decision makers and
 plan executors.

A call for papers is open until 30 May 1996. Language will be English. Full
copies of papers are due 31 July 1996. Registration fee before 31 July is S150
