G'day Chris,

I think WA uses stereoscopic pairs of aerial photos to estimate stand-level
height parameters.  Paul Biggs has quite a bit of stuff about this as I
recall.  He's over in WA in the south west, last I heard.  Brian should know
his address.

I'd like to hear anything else you get, if you don't mind passing it on.
