This is a query concerning educational software. 1) I wish to find educational PC-based programs that can simulate the basics at least) of nutrient cycling dynamics and sensitivities in forest ecosystems. Nitrogen dynamics are of particular interest if nothing else. I know that there are several very powerful modelling programs (e.g. FORCYTE); however, for my instructional objectives I need something that undergraduates can learn to use within a relatively short period of time. 2) I also wish to find out if there is similar PC-based educational software (e.g. expert systems) available for diagnosis of nutrient status/deficiencies in forest stands. A few years ago one developed for Sitka spruce in the U. K., and I know of at least one in-house program developed at the University of British Columbia. If you can help with either (or both) of the above, please e-mail me directly rather than clutter the discussion. I will summarize the responses I receive and post them to the list.
