I have used video to capture images of young trees.  Image analysis
software can then be used to measure foliage weights.  The correlations
between image analysis values and actual foliage weights is high
(R^2=c0.95), and more importantly the residuals are very well behaved,
unlike models of foliage weight vs stem dimensions.  A paper is under
construction.  One comment - I now use a digital camera.  The video
capture was OK, but the optics of a video image are apparently hard to
define.
