I'd have to assume that the difference lies in the distinction between
"protected" and "wilderness."  My source for the data is "Living in the
Environment," (eighth edition) 1994, by G. Tyler Miller.  Also, the
inclusion of freshwater will no doubt change the numbers a little as
well. I'd be interested to hear from some others who have data on this
subject.
