Re: Growth and Longevity



     I would like to comment about my earlier statement that "slow growing
     trees live longer than fast growing trees within a species."

     At the recent Natural Areas Conference held in late October, 1995 in
     Fayetteville, Arkansas there was a full day session on ancient
     forests.  Several presenters made comments like the one above and at
     least one presenter made reference to published papers on the subject.
     I am trying to obtain those references and will post them to this
     listserv as soon as possible.
