Press release,
for release on 4.12.1995

Finlands Forests Grow in the Internet

Finlands forests and forestry are about to become available to users
in the form of the worlds most extensive forestry information server
in the Internet -- in WWW format and three language versions.

Here are the addressess the the three versions:

English: http://www.metla.fi/forestfin/intro/eng/
Finnish: http://www.metla.fi/forestfin/intro/suo/
German: http://www.metla.fi/forestfin/intro/deu/

This server provides a wide coverage of forestry matters starting
with the history of Finland's forests after the most recent glaciation,
and concluding with todays biodiversity and threatened-species issues,
as well as current practices in forest management. There are forty
colour images, official Finnish forestry statistics in the form of 130
graphical presentations, and an abundance of additional information.
The server is the result of joint efforts between the Finnish Forestry
Association and METLA (the Finnish Forest Research Institute), the
latter having the responsibility for its technical implementation in
WWW-format.

An Internet working party with wide-scoping membership has been
appointed under the auspices of the Finnish Forestry Association.
The working partys task is to promote the availability of Finnish
forestry information and its presence in the Internet. Membership
in the working party includes twelve forestry and environmental
organisations.
