Press release, for release on 4.12.1995 Finlands Forests Grow in the Internet Finlands forests and forestry are about to become available to users in the form of the worlds most extensive forestry information server in the Internet -- in WWW format and three language versions. Here are the addressess the the three versions: English: http://www.metla.fi/forestfin/intro/eng/ Finnish: http://www.metla.fi/forestfin/intro/suo/ German: http://www.metla.fi/forestfin/intro/deu/ This server provides a wide coverage of forestry matters starting with the history of Finland's forests after the most recent glaciation, and concluding with todays biodiversity and threatened-species issues, as well as current practices in forest management. There are forty colour images, official Finnish forestry statistics in the form of 130 graphical presentations, and an abundance of additional information. The server is the result of joint efforts between the Finnish Forestry Association and METLA (the Finnish Forest Research Institute), the latter having the responsibility for its technical implementation in WWW-format. An Internet working party with wide-scoping membership has been appointed under the auspices of the Finnish Forestry Association. The working partys task is to promote the availability of Finnish forestry information and its presence in the Internet. Membership in the working party includes twelve forestry and environmental organisations.
