Forest Capital of Canada 1996 - Web Page

Greetings all:

Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, Canada has been designated the Forest Capital
of Canada for 1996.

To support this more than year long community wide event, a web page has
been setup to provide:
- background information about forestry and the community
- events calendar
- initiatives

Forestry is vital to the county of 50,000. For example:
- there are over 4000 woodlot owner (avg, size of 140 acres)
- approx. 1500 Christmas tree growers
- Fourteen sawmills and 1 fibreboard plant (a pulp mill is in the
neighboring county)
- annually, over 11,000 fish and game licenses

Reflecting the various roles of the forest, the motto is:

The Forest, its diversity, our future.

You'll find us on the web at:

Regards,
Tom Rogers for Forest Capital '96
(and a 150 acre woodlot owner)
