I'll second that. Maybe in Alaska a good deal of USFS wilderness is
forested (as David South pointed out--BTW, is that muskeg and taiga,
or coastal spruce??), but on the West coast almost all of the initial
Wilderness Areas are rock, ice, alpine meadows, and some subalpine
forest. Some of the more recent Wilderness additions include more of
the lower elevation, more productive (more diverse?) forests, but they
are a small fraction of the total land area.
