Rules are helpful. When I was relatively new to using email, I learnt that using upper case was the equivalent to angry shouting. I had emailed an organisation about an issue and received back what appeared to be a tirade of abuse in block capitals. I was hurt and offended because I had been (I thought) offering help. I responded accordingly. I eventually found that the message I had received had been written by my acquaintance as he recovered from having some metal removed from his head! After a further sympathetic enquiry, he told me that he had been working under his Landrover when it fell on him! The medicos had been removing the engine from his head! He was now, after several months, able to type using one finger only. He felt he was on his way to returning to a normal work schedule. These days, I respond more cautiously to SHOUTING. ******************************************** Dr David Yates Botany Department The University of Queensland Brisbane, Qld, 4072 Australia phone +61 7 3365 2070 fax +61 7 3365 1699
