User Survey for World Data Center-A for Terrestrial Ecosystems Data

Your name and/or organization has been provided by a colleague who
believes your input would be valuable to the survey. A few minutes of
your time would be greatly appreciated to answer the brief questions
below. Your input is invaluable in structu ring a WDC that is responsive
to your data and information needs.

An investigation has been initiated to determine a potential structure for
a World Data Center (WDC) A for terrestrial ecosystem data and
information. The Principal Investigator is Dr. Gary Evans, Special
Assistant to the United States Secretary of Agriculture for Global Change.

The WDC would provide support for the Global Terrestrial Observing System
(GTOS) program of the IGBP, other similar programs, and the needs of the
terrestrial ecosystems scientist and researchers world-wide. Given the
nature of terrestrial ecosystem science, the WDC would of necessity
address data and information across a variety of disciplines.

The first phase of this investigation is to determine both the kind of
terrestrial ecosystem data and information scientists and researchers
would like to have available through the WDC and the preferred means for
gaining access to the data and information. This information will be used
to determine sources of data and information to be made available through
the WDC and to define the data and information access and distribution
mechanisms.

QUESTION 1:

What type of terrestrial data, information, and value - added products are
you most interested in? (List as many as you want - prioritization would
be useful but not essential)

QUESTION 2:

What would be your preferred means for accessing data and information through
the WDC? (Enter a 1 for your first choice, 2 for second, etc.)

     Internet (World Wide Web) _____
     CD-ROM _____
     Floppy disk ____
     Hard Copy _____
     Other (please explain)_________________

QUESTION 3:

Could you recommend other scientists/researchers who should be asked to
provide input to this survey?
