The Rocky Mountain Forest and Range Experiment Station has a new publication
available for distribution.
Distribution of abandoned and inactive mines on National Forest System lands.

Technical Report RM-GTR-260. Fort Collins, CO: U.S. Department of Agriculture,
Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Forest and Range Experiment Station. 195 p. This
report characterizes the distribution of abandoned and inactive mines
throughout the United States. The assessment is based on the nonconfidential
portion of the Minerals Availability System (MAS) database compiled by the U.S.
Department of Interior, Bureau of Mines. The data provides a reasonable
estimate of the minimum number and types of mines on or near National Forest
System lands.
