And yes, I do think that in many cases timber companies create markets for their products...it's called advertising. I happen to be a general contractor, I make my living using wood. However, I believe that it is simply no longer neccessary to cut down our ancient forest in order to have a supply of wood. Newer technologies such as wafer board, microlams, and gluelams, have greatly lessedned our dependence old old-growth logs. Yet the industry continues to push for the removal of the last of the ancient forest because it is more profitable for them to do so. They don't have to--they want to. Well, some of us aren't too happy with their greed-based decision to clearcut the remaining old-growth, so we're going to stop it. Secondly, not only does the industry want us to continue to consume wood at our current per-capita rate, but their vision includes a 50% increase in that consumption rate over the next 10-20 years, irregardless of population growth. The bottom line--the more trees the industry cuts, the more money they make. I'll stand firmly behind my quote, no matter how "cute" you may find it. Bret
