Hello everyone! I am a pre-graduated student of Forest Engineering from Chile. As you know Chile has had a biggest growing of the forestry sector in the last 30-40 years. This growing has been influenced mainly by both climatic and soils conditions, which has contributed to develop quickly our forestry. During all of this time, chilean foresters has developed new technologies, practices to manage the forest. Our main teachers has been American, Austra- lian and foresters from New Zealand. I shoudn't forget the germanian the forestry's fathers. Nowadays, the youngest foresters are working very hard in order to get the best method to produce the best product from the forest. For instance, we are developing the forest breeding (chilean's firm has conformed a Forest Breeding Cooperative), the techniques of harvest incorporing the new harvest-machines from Finland. All this improving is being realized is hard. Also, chilean's firm has been working in a proyect whose objective is to create a simulation programs (for example, programs to simulate the growing of Pinus radiata). With the information got from the programs we, the managers, can choose using economic evaluation plus the biological evaluation a result in order to decide the best planning for a forest. Well, if biological behavior can be simulated by a program, the problem is reduced to find the best method of economic evaluation. Many authors has wroten a lot of books. But, what about the new theories and practical re- sults from the new authors? What has happened with the traditional evalua- tion criteria? These one even are valids, I don't know. I am developing my thesis related with this topic - the economic evaluation -, and I'd like to know your opinion about this. I'd like to know the new studies realized -bibliographie, etc. If you can help me I'll appreciate it a lot Francisco Javier RIQUELME HERMOSILLA Management&Environment Dept.
