Post-doctoral position
(resubmission)
This is a resubmission of an earlier posted advertisement.
A post-doctoral position in the area of forest ecology is available, and the
starting date has been postponed until January 1, 1996. This allowed us to
include more prospective candidate in the search. The successful candidate
will become one of the key figures in the project "Forest Ecosystems and Human
Values" which addresses the relationships between biophysical indicators of
forest ecosystem condition and those functions of forest which are valued by
the public.
DUTIES: A suitable forest area in southwestern Ontario will be selected as a
study site. The candidate will characterize changes in forest condition over
the past few centuries, and contrast present conditions with those in existing
relatively undisturbed forests. An array of techniques will be required to
reconstruct a balanced picture. S/he will track indicators of forest
ecosystem health, such as species composition and
diversity, age structure, invasions of exotic species and other relevant
indicators. Essentially, the research will be a case study of a long-term
forest dynamics under contrasting regimes.
QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Forest Ecology, Forestry, Botany or a related field,
experience with vegetation studies and statistical methods in vegetation
science. Familiarity with the flora of the Great Lakes region an asset.
SALARY: CAN$30,000/yr. Citizenship does not matter. Please mail or fax your
complete CV, cover letter and any relevant materials to the contact persons.
