I know the term 'old growth' or 'ancient forest' has been applied to
forests in the mediterranean, temperate and boreal zones (e.g. North
America, Europe, southern South America, northern Asia). The
ecological definition for old-growth usually includes large trees,
multiple tree species in a range of diameter sizes and crown classes,
and considerable amounts of dead wood. Have these terms ever been
applied to tropical ecosystems? Any replies or references would be
welcome.
