POSITION ANOUNCEMENT: Forest Engineer / Forestry Operations Researcher CSIRO Division of Forestry, Canberra, Austraia We wish to appoint an engineer or forestry operations researcher to contribute to our Forestry Operations project team. The work aims to improve the efficiency of forestry operations and to reduce their environmental impacts. The appointee will contribute initially to projects such as forest harvest planning, machine system evaluation and measuring harvesting impacts on soils. In the longer term greater independence and a research leadership role is expected. You will need to have a degree in forest or agricultural engineering, or in forestry, or be able to demonstrate suitable equivalent qualifications. You must be able to demonstrate an ability to work independently, and as part of a small team. Well developed written and oral skills are essential, as is a willingness to travel to implement field experiments away from Canberra. We are seeking a broadly trained applicant, and knowledge of any of data logging and instrumentation techniques, soil mechanics, and machine systems evaluation would be an advantage, as would research experience or post graduate training. The job will involve significant use of computer techniques. The position can be offered on an indefinite basis for a suitable applicant, but consideration might be given to appointing on a term basis for applicants with less directly applicable qualifications or experience.
