                         Call For Papers
          Advanced Technology in the Environmental Field
                          May 6-9, 1996
                      Gold Coast, Australia

Sponsors: International Association of Science and Technology
          for Development (IASTED)

Location:
The conference is being held at the Sea World Nara Resort on the
Gold Coast. The Gold Coast is seventy kilometers of coast line
surrounded by warm pacific ocean waters and thousands of hectares
of untouched rain forests. It has a subtropical climate which
allows year round swimming. Within 30 minutes from Surfer's
Paradise are enormous rainforests which include 12 national
parks, mountains, valleys, farmlands and Australia's largest area
of sub-tropical rainforests. The Gold Coast is a one hour flight
from Sydney or a one hour drive from Brisbane.

Purpose:
The purpose of this conference is to act as an interdisciplinary
forum for researchers, academics and practitioners interested in
the advances, applications and effects of technology in the
conservation and rehabilitation of the natural environment and
its renewable and non-renewable resources. The conference will
be divided into several distinct streams. They will include, but
are not limited to the following:

Water Resource Management
     * design and operation of water supply and wastewater
        treatment and distribution systems
     * emerging technologies in the detection, containment and
       treatment of water and wastewater
                 Ozonation
                 Activated carbon adsorption
                 Filtration systems
     * demand forecasting
     * computerized decision support systems for water
       resources management
     * flood control
     * water reclamation

Hazardous Waste (organic, inorganic, radioactive)

           -X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy
     * new uses of hazardous waste products
     * site remediation
           -physicochemical remediation
           -electrochemical and electrokinetic
           -photodegradation
     * transportation and storage of hazardous waste
     * contamination control and prevention
     * hazardous waste reduction
