WOOD SCIENCES DÉPARTEMENT DES SCIENCES DU BOIS ET DE LA FORET FACULTÉ DE FORESTERIE ET DE GÉOMATIQUE UNIVERSITÉ LAVAL Description The Department of Wood and Forest Sciences, at Laval University, is looking for a candidate whose teaching and research would focus on wood-based panels and wood anatomy. This will be a tenure track position and the candidate is expected to: 1. Teach, at the undergraduate and graduate levels, courses in the area of wood-based panel manufacturing and wood anatomy as well as supervise students; 2. Study the various steps in wood-based panel design and manufacturing as well as their physical and mechanical properties; 3. Conduct research and advise graduate students on subjects related to wood-based panel manufacturing; 4. Take part in various working groups within the Department, the University, the Government and the industry. Qualifications The candidate should: 1. Have an undergraduate degree in wood sciences or related field; 2. Have a Ph. D. in wood sciences from a recognized university; 3. Have a solid knowledge of wood anatomy, methods used to manufacture wood-based panels from raw materials to finished products and techniques needed to determine the mechanical and physical properties of wood-based products; 4. Be active in research, be willing to do teamwork, and be able to establish a fundamental and applied research program dealing with technologies involved in the use of wood with non wood materials, processes involved in manufacturing composite products and characterization of wood-based products; 5. Be able to successfully obtain competitive research funds from national grant organisations and industries; 6. Be able to communicate in French or be willing to learn the language within a year.
