Forest Soils; Splitting the ForestNet!

FOREST SOILS, SPLITTING THE FORESTNET

Although having been on the ForestNet for only a short while, I
have noticed a distinct lack of discussion on the very substrate
that all forests and plantations depend : the forest soils.

Please could you Jaarmo, or anyone else interesteed in this post
a list of maiing lists / sites to the net?

While on the blower, I find that very few of the ForestNet
subscribers use the TOPIC categories in the subject line.

May I therefore suggest two changes?

1 The forest list is split into the individual catagories TOPICs
(or sub-groups of them);

2 The ForestNet have a separate component for those interested
_only_ in plantations. There is a fair amount of discussion on
this, and the management of forests proper, although interesting,
is not relevant to a lot of subscribers, I am sure.

(Perhaps we will need a show of support from <you> to get either
of these changes made...)

Thanks

The message from Sjef (below) prompted me to post the question
regarding forest soils...

Saw your personal WWW page. Impressed with professional setup.
I look for info on forest soils under pine plantations.
I am researching the link between soil nutrient status and forest
growth;
the influence of pines on soils (soil degradation and soil
improvement by pines).
Is there any mailinglist or group on the internet discussing
forest soils?

I have included Jaarmo's insructions (once _again_) on sending to
all members, and the TOPICs.

3) SENDING E-MAIL MESSAGES TO ALL LIST MEMBERS !

Operation of the mailing list is very simple:
messages that are sent to the address: FOREST@listserv.funet.fi

are forwarded to members who have subscribed to the FOREST list.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

4) HOW TO WRITE THE SUBJECT:

The Subject: -line should NEVER be empty.

The Current topics for the forest mailing list are listed below.
Pleas use
them in the "Subject:" of your e-mail messages and design the
rest
of the line wisely to indicate what topic you are discussing.

* Topics = EVENT,JOB,PUBLICATION,POLICY,EDUCATION
* Topics = ANALYSIS,PRODUCTS,TECHNOLOGY,MANAGEMENT

(POLICY= forest-policy, PRODUCTS=forest-products, etc.)

Other keywords may also be used, but then messages are sent to
all
subscribers. In my opinion, the keywords are mainly useful for
filtering OUT unwanted topics or threads of discussion.
