Looking forward to meeting you in Paris Jean-Claude CAZAUX President Director General of SCOT Conseil Member of the Programme Committee ******************************************************************** "SPOT : FROM A DECADE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT...TO A DECADE OF PROMISE" International Conference 15 - 18 April 1996 at Cite des Sciences et de l'Industrie - La Villette, Paris PURPOSE OF THE CONFERENCE On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the launching of SPOT 1 in 1986, CNES is organizing, in close collaboration with its Belgian and Swedish partners, an International Conference gathering the players of the programme, and the SPOT data users community. The main objective of this conference, which will provide a forum for exchange and a confrontation of experience, is to set up a statement on the development of a wide range of thematic areas and associated services, an analysis of perspectives and challenges taking into account the evolution of users needs and the technical improvements the forthcoming SPOT 5 a and 5 b satellites will bring up, assuring the continuity of customers services up to 2012. The Public sector and industrial partners of the SPOT Programme, the commercial distribution network, the receiving stations operators, the prescriptors and customers, the added value services sector, the training bodies and the users will constitute the target audience of this conference. An industrial exhibition will be held in parallel with the conference. SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMME The following themes have been selected as subjects for the call for papers : 1. The keys to success : Instrumental performance and quality of service Taking the user needs into account : new tools, new services Application projects carried out as operational 2. The legal and economic aspects 3. Applying Earth observation techniques to problems related to development 4. The role played by high-resolution Earth observation systems in international scientific programmes 5. Earth observation applied to local and regional environmental problems 6. Agriculture and forestry SYMPOSIUM ORGANISATION The conference will be held as a plenary session, except for themes 4, 5 and 6, which will be discussed in parallel sessions. The working language will be French. Simultaneous French/English interpretation (and vice versa) will be provided for all sessions. Lunches : Optional lunches will be organized on site on Tuesday the 16th, Wednesday the 17th and Thursday the 18th of April. The full set of 3 lunches costs 240 FF (this set is non-divisible). Post-conference visits : You are invited to take full advantage of your trip to France by visiting the sites in Toulouse after the Conference. Visits to CNES and other local space companies will be organized for Friday, April 19, 1996. When reserving an airline ticket for Paris, you could ask directly for an extension to Toulouse, or else request your Paris/Toulouse ticket on the final registration forms. Bus transportation to the various sites will be offered from the Toulouse-Blagnac airport at about 10h00, with return to the airport planned for about 19h00. The fee for the day is 150 FF, and, if you wish, your return plane ticket can be bought for you by the administrative secretariat for the price of 1000 FF.
