Wow, another request for dendrometer band info. Now everyone will
really get tired of hearing from me.
I have heard that someone is now marketing dendrometer bands, but I
would recommend taking another route. For some of my research I
installed dendrometer bands on 700 trees using stainless steel
embossing tape available from Forestry Suppliers or Ben Meadows. Use
the thinnest tape they provide (I think that they may only offer one
thickness). It is very easy to construct the band in the field and
unless all of your trees are pretty much the exact same size then each
band must be a slightly (or more) different length. You can use
either stainless steel or aluminum bands - both types of material are
available from the above suppliers in the form of embossing tape. You
could probably look around and find the same type of material (rolls
of very thin aluminum or stainless steel strap about 1 to 1.5 cm wide)
available for less money, but I'm not sure where you would find it.
Forestry Suppliers 1995 Catalog 46 - page 361 or
Ben Meadows 1994-1995 Catalog - page 13.
For information on how to construct the dendrometer bands see the list
of references I provided in my previous posting of today.
