Steve Johnson and I at the ITTO Secretariat are seeking information on the following: - estimates of harvesting costs in natural mixed conifer forests of the Pacific North West (current land-based practice and, if possible, helicopter logging); - productivity in cubic metres per hectare per year for the same forests; - estimates of harvesting costs in Pinus radiata forests in Chile, New Zealand and/or Australia; - productivity in cubic metres per hectare per year for the same plantations; - estimates of harvesting costs in boreal spruce forests in northern Canada; - productivity in cubic metres per hectare per year for the same forest. Can anybody help? We need the info for an article we're writing which looks at the competitiveness of tropical timber on the international commodity markets. Once it's written, we'll put it on the list for comments.
