Dear netters!

I will start a research project and I try to collect a list of indicators.
What indicators of former agricultural, pastoral or forestry use could be
found in forests of mountainous area? For example, one might find in a soil
profil a "ploughing horizon" that proves the land was used previously as a
field.
Did anyone work on a similar subject or have bibliographical references?

Please answer me directly. I will post later a summary of the answers on the
net.
