At the IUFRO XX World Congress held in Tampere, Finland earlier this month, Dr. Chin, Asean Institute of Forest Management, discussed a proposal to develop IUFRO Guides for Designing Multiple Resource Inventories as called for in the Seremban IUFRO workshop held this past November. We agreed to proceed with the development of the guides and are looking for volunteers to help out. The Guides may contain the following: Basic concepts - advantages, disadvantages - seasons Options - separate inventories, coordinated, total. Information needs assessment - establishing common language, terms, codes, processes, rules. Getting support and coordinated Planning Design options Special skills needed (planning, logistics) Data collection - trees, shrubs, grass, animals, soils Updating/remeasurements Data sharing and use Special concerns Case studies If you are interested in volunteering your services to this worthwhile project, please contact: H.
