The figures I quote below are from the March, 1995 "Quarterly Forest Products
statistics, and are for plantation areas at 31, March, 1993--

Coniferous plantations-- 702,000 hectares of public ownership
                                   257,000 hectares of private ownership
non-coniferous plantations - 766,000 hectares of public, 82,000 ha of
private, for a total of 1.1 million hectares if I added right.  Hope this
helps.

I am looking to confirm radiata pine plantation stats to update a chart of
mine.  I am using 1.4 million ha for Chile, 1.3 million for NZ, 720,000 for
Australia, am guessing 150,000 ha for South Africa, and don't know about
Spain/portugal or other.  Total of about 3.7-3.8 million hectares??? Can
anyone confirm?
