Graduate Assistantship in Environmental Quality The Auburn University Southern Forest Nursery Management Cooperative has a research grant in the area of water quality. Qualified students interested in a masters degree are encouraged to apply. The graduate student will adapt the GLEAMS model for use in southern pine nurseries. Species specific data (e.g. leaf area index curves) will be derived and site specific data (e.g. soil profile data) will be used to model the potential for leaching of commonly used pesticides and nitrogen. In addition, the model will be used to evaluate the risk to groundwater of using selected new pesticides. The model will also be used to model nitrogen use in comparison to agricultural crops.
