Dear colleagues,
The Forest-list is now be running under the revised listserv software.
Physically the list resides at the Centre for Scientific Computing,
Espoo, Finland. The list has now A NEW ADDRESS:

* *

The new listserv sofware also allows you to subscribe the list
in digest-form, i.e. you will receive daily a single message
that contains all messages of that day.

# Please, DO NOT send any listserver commnads like 'subscribe' or 'set' #

THE INSTURCTIONS:
=============================================================================
1) JOINING THE LIST:
To join the forest-list, send an E-mail message to
|
| LISTSERV@LISTSERV.FUNET.FI
|
You will need to issue the "subscribe" command; the listserver
software will then extract your E-mail address from your message
and add it to the recipient list. The first row of your message
should be:
|
| SUBSCRIBE forest Your Full Name
|
The server program will reply to you with a confirmation message,
and you are then able to receive messages from the list. PLEASE,
save the instructions that you receive for further need. You will
will be sent a request to confirm your subscription once a year..
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
2) LEAVING THE LIST:
To remove yourself from the list, send E-mail to "LISTSERV@LISTSERV.FUNET.FI"
and write the following command on the first row of the message body:
|
| UNSUBSCRIBE forest or SIGNOFF forest
|
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
3) SENDING E-MAIL MESSAGES TO ALL LIST MEMBERS !
Operation of the mailing list is very simple:
messages that are sent to the address: FOREST@listserv.funet.fi
are forwarded to members who have subscribed to the FOREST list.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
4) HOW TO WRITE THE SUBJECT:
The Subject: -line should NEVER be empty.
The Current topics for the forest mailing list are listed below. Pleas use
them in the "Subject:" of your e-mail messages and design the rest
of the line wisely to indicate what topic you are discussing.
* Topics = EVENT,JOB,PUBLICATION,POLICY,EDUCATION
* Topics = ANALYSIS,PRODUCTS,TECHNOLOGY,MANAGEMENT
(POLICY= forest-policy, PRODUCTS=forest-products, etc.)
Other keywords may also be used, but then messages are sent to all
subscribers. In my opinion, the keywords are mainly useful for
filtering OUT unwanted topics or threads of discussion.
To select the topics you want to subscribe, send your command to
LISTSERV@LISTSERV.FUNET.FI. Note that you can review the topics which you
have selected for any mailing list through the Query command.
|
| SET forest topics: +policy -job -> you will receive only messages with the
| topics "policy:" and "all:" in the
| Subject and never messages with the
| topic "job".
| SET forest topics: all -job -> you will receive all messages except
| those with the the topic "job:"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
5) NEW COMMANDS AVAILABLE (send to LISTSERV@listserv.funet.fi)

| rather than getting
| messages as they are posted
| CONFIRM forest Confirm your subscription
| (when LISTSERV requests it)
|
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
