SERVICES NEEDED: HARDWOOD DATABASE MANAGER
A contract for database management services is being offered by the 
Washington Hardwoods Commission, based in Olympia, Washington.  This is 
available to individuals or companies. If you are interested please contact 
David Sweitzer at 360-834-2192 (fax 360-834-0332) ASAP to obtain the 
detailed Request for Qualifications and Quotations.  The contract would start 
in July 1995.  

The new deadline for proposals/bids is May 23, 1995.


             REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS AND QUOTATIONS
                     
The Washington Hardwoods Commission (WHC) will issue a Request for 
Qualifications and Quotations for services of a Hardwood Database 
Manager under a Hardwood Resources Database Project.  The primary goal 
of the project is to provide updated and improved estimates of available 
hardwood supplies in Washington, incorporating: 1) product types and 
operational stand types most meaningful to the hardwood industry; 2) 
estimated reductions in statewide supply due to forest practices regulations 
and management policies; and 3) estimated reductions in statewide supply due 
to non-forest development of forest lands and county land-use restrictions.

The Database Manager is needed to develop and manage a GIS/tabular 
database system within a permanent framework, assembling and updating 
information pertaining to hardwood forest resources on both public and 
private lands in Washington..  Required services will include acquisition, 
screening, formatting, transferring, processing, analyzing, and summarizing of

GIS data, LANDSAT imagery data, and tabular data pertaining to hardwood 
forest resources, along with production of Draft and Final quality output of 
maps, graphs, or tables for reports.  Services will be performed under the 
direction of a Hardwood Research Forester.

The estimated length of the project is 18 months under current funding, 
with continuation dependent on future funding.  A maximum of about 
$60,000 are available for these services.   Office space, computer equipment, 
and necessary expenses will be provided by the WHC.  

Qualifications and Quotations will be due by 4:30 PM, Pacific 
Standard Time, on May23, 1995, in the office at the address listed below.

A contract for Research Forester services is being offered by the Washington 
Hardwoods Commission, based in Olympia, Washington.  This is available to 
individuals or companies. If you are interested please contact David Sweitzer

for Qualifications and Quotations.  The contract would start in July 1995.

           REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS AND QUOTATIONS
                     
The Washington Hardwoods Commission (WHC) will issue a Request for 
Qualifications and Quotations for services of a Hardwood Research Forester.   

Required services include a minimum of half-time effort on a Hardwood 
Resources Database Project.  The primary goals of the Database Project are 
to provide updated and improved estimates of available hardwood supplies, 
incorporating: 1) product types and operational stand types most meaningful 
to the hardwood industry; 2) estimated reductions in statewide supply due to 
forest practices regulations and management policies; and 3) estimated 
reductions in statewide supply due to non-forest development of forest lands 
and county land-use restrictions.   Based upon an existing Project Description

and Workplan,  services under this Project include: continued investigation of

data sources, methods, and opportunities for cooperative effort; development 
of  complete and detailed Workplans for sub-projects under the Hardwood 
Database Project; execution of the Workplans including supervision of a 
Database Manager; and production of Project reports suitable for publication. 


Other services required include: providing assistance to the WHC in 
identifying and responding to hardwood forestry issues; scouting opportunities

and preparing effective proposals for future grants; pursuing opportunities 
and developing sound cooperative projects promoting and demonstrating 
alternative hardwood management practices; reviewing, interpreting and 
publicizing key results from hardwood related research, strategically focused 
on promoting the interests of the WHC.

The estimated length of the contract is 18 months under current funding, 
with continuation dependent on future funding.  A range from $60,000 - 
$80,000 are available for these services and related expenses, depending on 
available time commitment and qualifications of the most suitable contractor. 
 
Database capabilities including a GIS, LANDSAT image analysis, tabular 
data management, and a full-time Database Manager are provided by the 
WHC.

Standard Time, on May23, 1995, in the office at the address listed below.
