To all, 1st announcement for a forum to be held in October 1995 in Paris : POTENTIAL IMPACT OF REMOTE SENSING IN THE EUROPEAN FORESTRY INFORMATION SYSTEMS. Initiated and organized by CNES, the French Space Agency, and implemented by SCOT CONSEIL, a subsidiary of CNES, this forum will aim at evaluating the current and future use of remote sensing data, and especially Spot data, in the forestry information systems in European and pan-European countries. The information policy applied by institutions and/or national bodies will be one of the main topic of the forum. The ultimate obective of the forum is to promote the operational and pre-operational applications of space information in the forestry sector. Applications in temperate and boreal forests will be considered. To achieve this goal, three main groups of participants will be invited to give their opinions, needs, and experiences : the participants will be representatives from (i) technical institutes generating, processing, archiving or distributing forest information (such as for instance the National Forest Inventories), (ii) research laboratories or universities (developping new methods on the use of RS information) and (iii) value-added companies in the commercial sector. A focus will be given to the institutional group since this meeting will not be a scientific seminar with the presentation of research activities. Links between the groups, trends and flows of information will be examined and discussed. The number of participants will be limited. A programme committee is going to be set up in the coming days. If you have an operational or pre-operational applications to propose (i.e. being implemented by an industrial or technical body on a routine basis), or if you have any comments on this event, please contact : Herve JEANJEAN Tel : +33 61 39 46 00 Fax : +33 61 39 46 10 E-mail : HJJ@SCOTC.CNES.FR This first announcement will be followed by other communications.
