INSTRUCTIONS; HOW TO USE THE FOREST-LIST

							(updated Feb 9, 1995)
Dear colleague,

Here is a short guide how to (un)subscribe to the forest mailing list. If
you still have problems please send e-mail to "forest-request@nic.funet.fi".

 ###########################################################################
 #                                                                         #
 # REMEMBER !                                                              #
 # EVERY MESSAGE SENT TO "forest@nic.funet.fi" is forwarded to all members #
 # of the list. Please, DO NOT send any mailserver commnads like #
 # 'unsubscribe' to this address. #
 #                                                                         #
 ###########################################################################

! Please note the correct spelling of the list name. The occasional messages
! from the "forest-owner" -address are due to the mailserver setup. Any
! messages to that address are NOT forwarded to the list.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
LEAVING THE LIST:

To remove yourself from the list, send E-mail to "mailserver@nic.funet.fi"
and write the following command on the first row of the message body:

->	unsubscribe forest

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
JOINING THE LIST:

To join the forest-list, send an E-mail message to

->	mailserver@nic.funet.fi

You will need to issue the "subscribe" command; the listserver
software will then extract your E-mail address from your message
and add it to the recipient list. The first row of your message
should be:

->	subscribe forest <your first name> <your last name>

For example, using the standard Unix mail program, the exchange
would look like this:

->	% mail mailserver@nic.funet.fi
->	Subject: <return>
->
->	subscribe forest John Smith
->	.
->	%

The listserver program will reply to you with a confirmation message,
and you are then able to receive messages from the list.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
OBTAINING MORE INFORMATION:

The list server also understands many other commands;
send the command 'help' to mailserver@nic.funet.fi for more info.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
SENDING E-MAIL MESSAGES TO ALL LIST MEMBERS !

Operation of the mailing list is very simple:
all messages that are sent to the address: "forest@nic.funet.fi"
are forwarded to all members who have subscribed to the FOREST list.

If you have any problems, please send a message to the list-owner:

	forest-request@nic.funet.fi
