You are talking about "advantage" and "optimum". What are the definitions of these concepts? I would propose the following definitions: Optimum: The most effective way to reach a defined goal in a specified environment. Advantage: A property of a solution making this particular solution more effective in reaching the defined goal in a specified environment. Thus my argument is that optimality can be treated only after defining both the goal and the environment. I think the density of the stand must be an essential factor in the environment of a tree...
