If in fact science and the general public support
increased harvest on public lands and it is only
a "fringe element" that opposes these, then why
should there be a need to remove the safeguards of
a proper review of forest operating plans, as
the new legislation seems to do?  It seems to me that
public opinion and science are not so unequivocally
in support of increased harvest from public lands
as Professor Flick suggests.
