>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< >>> GreenDisk on Temperate Forest Conservation Released <<< >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< April 12, 1995 Contact: <greendisk@igc.apc.org> Washington, DC - The GreenDisk Paperless Environmental Journal has just released its latest issue, focusing on the conservation of temperate forest ecosystems. Included is an introduction to the subject, current forest news and action alerts, plus an extensive listing of organizations, publications and computer resources concerned with forest conservation and study. The journal has published 16 similar compendia on environmental topics ranging from the decline of global fisheries to pesticides to the anti-environmental backlash. "It is fitting that an issue devoted to educating and directing people to become actively involved in the protection of forests should itself have a minimum impact on forests," notes William Sugg, editor and publisher of the journal. Now in its third year of publication, The GreenDisk has delivered the equivalent of several million pages of timely and well-organized environmental information to its subscribers -- educators, journalists and activists -- all over the world. Each semi-monthly issue is incorporated into the subscriber's growing keyword-searchable database. "It's not just gathering dust on your shelf or taking up space in a landfill", explains Sugg, "it's right there at your fingertips, wherever you have your computer." The GreenDisk is delivered on disk and via the Internet, creating an essentially resource-free edition of the publication. Each issue/disk is the equivalent of about 350 pages of single-spaced information. Paper used by the journal for mailers and correspondence is made entirely from old magazines and newspapers and the disks can be returned for future issues. The issue on forests also contains the regular features found in each issue of The GreenDisk -- covering a broad spectrum of environmental topics. Included are listings of new publications and videos; an index of current environmental newsletters and magazines; The Environmental Computing Digest (describing the latest developments in networking and software); listing of new environmental education resources and projects; press releases and action alerts; a comprehensive events calendar; employment opportunities and much more.
