INTERNATIONAL Ph.D. PROGRAMME IN PULP AND PAPER SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Seven Finnish universities offer an international programme for gaining a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Degree in Pulp and Paper Science and Technology. The programme provides courses and research facilities to enable a graduate student to fulfil the requirements for a Ph.D. degree in four years. The programme is arranged by the following universities: - Helsinki University of Technology - University of Jyväskylä - Lappeenranta University of Technology - Tampere University of Technology - University of Helsinki - University of Oulu - Åbo Akademi University The universities provide courses and supervise research in the fields of their expertise. The aim is to provide the student with a knowledge of the latest developments in pulp and paper science and related technologies. The courses cover the following areas: - Pulping Science and Technology - Paper Science and Technology - Chemistry of Pulping and Papermaking - Fibre Raw Materials - Converting Science and Technology - Process and Production Control in the Pulp and Paper Industry - Processes and Materials in Printed Communication - Practical Fluid Dynamics in Papermaking - Energy Systems and Environmental Control in the Pulp and Paper Industry The student has to take 45 credits in the form of courses and undertake research leading to a doctoral thesis. The coursework can be started in September 1995. The Government of Finland finances a few grants to qualified students. The grant covers the tuition fee and it also is enough for living expenses during the study in Finland. Individuals interested in the grants are invited to apply before May 31, 1995.
