Position Announcement
Forest Research Technicians
Applicants for 11 technician positions are currently being sought. All
but four of these positions will be located at Westvaco's Forestry
Center in Summerville, South Carolina. Responsibilities and require-
ments for the positions are as follows:
Forest Research Technician (AS,BS)
Provide support to scientists in developing intensive cultural pre-
scriptions for hardwood and pine plantations, including stand estab-
lishment, weed control, fertilization, and irrigation. Experience
related to research plot establishment and measurement is desirable.
Seven positions are available: one to be located at Wickliffe, KY; six
at Summerville, SC.
Forest Research Technician (AS,BS)
Assist with the selection of breeding stock from forest stands,
raising seedlings for genetic evaluation tests, establishing and
measuring genetic test plantations, and breeding individuals in test
populations. Prefer BS in forestry or closely related field, or AS
degree in forestry and two years of relevant field experience.
Experience related to research plot establishment and measurement is
desirable. Two positions are available: one to be located at
Wickliffe, KY; one at Summerville, SC.
Seed Orchard/Tree Improvement Technician (AS)
Responsible for field work associated with loblolly pine mass control
pollination, cone harvesting in production seed orchards, and progeny
test establishment and measurement. AS degree in forestry, horticul-
ture or related field, or equivalent training. Located at Ravenel,
SC.
Nursery Technician (AS)
Responsible for field work associated with planting, growing, and
harvesting of pine and hardwood seedlings. AS degree in forestry,
horticulture or related field, or equivalent training. Located at
Ravenel, SC.
