Forest Research/Technical Staff
Applicants for four positions are currently being sought. All of these
positions will be located at Westvaco's Forestry Center in Summerville,
South Carolina. Responsibilities and requirements for the positions are
as follows:
Biometrics Analyst (BS,MS)
Provide support to scientists developing growth and yield models for
intensively managed plantations and natural stands. Prefer MS or BS
in forestry with significant quantitative skills. BS or MS in statis-
tics with background in forestry or biology may also be considered.
At least two years experience in scientific applications programming.
Prefer experience with SAS and FORTRAN. Two positions available.
Genetic Analyst (BS,MS)
Provide support to scientists in genetic analyses of field tests
associated with tree improvement programs; maintain the data associ-
ated with these tests. Prefer MS or advanced BS-level competency in
quantitative skills associated with forest genetics and statistics.
Programming skills with SAS are required; programming skills in
processing and database languages are preferred.
Research Specialist (BS,MS)
Assist with studies to define efficient cutting propagation methods
and to test and deploy clones. BS or MS in forestry or closely
related field with experience in conducting or evaluating field
research. Training or experience in several of these areas is desir-
able: propagation by stem cuttings, plantation silviculture, micro-
propagation, hardwood regeneration, greenhouse or nursery production.
