Planted Forests Symposium:  Contributions to Sustainable Societies.  
June 28 - July 1 1995. Portland, OR  (Third Announcement)

With the Pacific Northwest region of the United States as a backdrop, leaders 
in a number of forest-related areas will illustrate the variety, nature and 
significance of planted, managed forests in our societies. The Planted Forests 
Symposium will discuss attributes and values of these forests in all their 
forms Ä from extensively planted forests in mountainous wildlands to 
intensively cultured fiber plantations. Planted forest systems will be 
emphasized in appropriate context with other managed forests and with native 
forest systems.
Symposium Content:  June 28, experts will discuss social, biological, and 
economic significance of species and groups of species planted worldwide.
June 29, experts will discuss forests planted for different primary objectives. 
June 30, invited and volunteer papers will be presented on emerging issues of 
planted forests. 
July 1, field trips will observe planted forests in Oregon and Washington.

Paper and panel sessions as well as evening poster sessions are scheduled.

Who Should Attend  Individuals in the management of forest and agroforestry 
lands Ä private, state, and federal representatives; conservationists; policy 
makers; and others involved in planted forests and the roles they play in 
sustainable societies.

Registration Information  Cost of the symposium is $275.00 which includes 
conference cost and meals.  Field trips and lodging are extra.  Approximate 
cost of field trips is $75.00.

    Call for Abstracts (Note extended deadline)

A significant portion of the symposium is devoted to discussion sessions and 
submitted papers and posters. The purpose of these sessions is to provide for 
the exchange of ideas and information about planted forests.
Submitted papers, 15-20 minutes in length, will be presented on the third day 
of symposium. Evening poster sessions will be combined with buffet dinner. 
Topics of papers and posters being solicited include the following aspects of 
planted forests: Biological and Ecological; Social and Policy; Forest Products 
and Economics; and Silviculture and Engineering. 
To be considered for inclusion in the poster or solicited paper sessions send a 
200 word abstract to the Conference Coordinator by February 28, 1995. Please 
send Abstract on disk or via Internet. 
Abstracts will be evaluated and invitations to present either a paper or poster 
will be sent by April 1, 1995. Abstracts will be published in the symposium 
program. If your paper is selected for publication in the proceedings, you will 
be expected to submit a full-length version of your paper in specific format at 
the time of the symposium.
All poster and paper presenters must register for the symposium.

share experiences and learn from each other as much as possible.
