                                POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

                        Assistant/Associate Professor
                        Forest Community / Systems Ecology

        The School of Forestry at Auburn University is soliciting
applications for a faculty position in forest community or systems ecology.
This is a 12 month, tenure-track position with responsibilities in
research and teaching.  The incumbent will conduct forest ecology research
at the community or systems level to complement the School's strengths in
ecological research and modeling.

Qualifications:  Applicant must hold a Ph.D. in forest community or systems
ecology and research experience with forested ecosystems.  At least one
degree in forestry is preferred.  Research interests must include
quantitative measurements of forest community dynamics or ecosystem
processes.  Interest in synthesizing this knowledge into quantitative
models of the processes will be emphasized.  Preference will be given to
candidates with experience in acquiring extramural funding and a
demonstrated ability to publish in refereed journals.  Fundamental
knowledge associated with hydrology, plant interference, nutrient cycling,
fire influences, climatic influences, and/or faunal interactions would be
of particular interest.

Responsibilities:  The successful candidate will be expected to develop an
active research program in community or systems ecology. The candidate will
also teach appropriate undergraduate and graduate level courses, including
a graduate course in Community Ecology.   In addition, the candidate must
be able to work cooperatively with other faculty in multiple disciplines,
advise graduate and undergraduate students, serve on appropriate university
and School of Forestry committees, interact with various clientele groups
and perform other duties normally associated with academic appointments.

Rank and Salary:  Commensurate with teaching and research experience.
