Headline "New eucalypt find excites scientists"

BOTANISTS have uncovered a previously unknown species of eucalypt in northern
New South Wales.

The 15-metre tree is thought to be a sub species of eucalyptus pachycalyx -
itself classified as a relic.

The chance discovery by rangers of the National Parks and Wildlife Service in
September has once again excited scientists who are still reeling from the
discovery only a month ago of a 200 million-year-old wollemi pine near Sydney.

A group of 20 of the mature new eucalypts were found in a natural clearing in
Banyabba Nature Reserve north of Grafton.
