Dear foresters,
I did before request information about the main wood harvesting systems
in European countries and the biomass distribution of pulpwood tree
species.
Now I have calculated weight precentage of foliage, branches, stemwood
and stemwood bark by the M.G.R Cannell's work: World forest biomass
primary production data. Here is my results.
age foliage branches stemwood bark
Beech 59 2 27 66 5
(German) 80 2 16 77 5
(Danish) 85-90 1 20 76 3
Pine
Maritime (UK) 18 12 25 44 19
28 7 16 58 19
48 5 10 66 19
Sylvestris 18 11 24 52 13
28 5 15 71 9
64 4 14 70 12
(Spain) 80 6 18 68 8
Spruce 87 7 12 75 6
(Picea, German)
Poplar
(Japan) 25-40 2 19 79
Eukalyptus 9,5 13 9 63 15
(Globulus, Australia)
I am going to use these numbers for calculating average tree biomass
distribution for used pulpwood in following countries: Denmark, Germany,
France, United Kingdom, Austria, Italy, Portugal and Spain. If anybody
has anything to comment about these numbers I would be very pleased to
hear.
Waiting for comments,
Samuli Toivanen
P.S I'm still short with those main pulpwood harvesting systems in
following countries: Austria, Italy and Spain. I would also like to get
more cost information of pulpwood harvesting from every earlier
mentioned country.
