Forest netters, I must apologize for spreading misinformation. I earlier reported incorrect harvest levels for the U.S. Forest Service, and I want to thank Richard Teck for bringing this to my attention. The correct numbers should have been: 1987 harvest = 12.7 billion board feet 1993 harvest = 5.9 bbf This is still a significant drop, but again shows that the Forest Service continues to supply a modest to moderate level of forest products. The numbers that I gave in the first message more closely resemble the harvest figures in those years from the Pacific Northwest. They also show that even in the PNW, a modest amount of wood continues to be harvested. While certainly the priorities of the Forest Service have changed in recent years due to public pressures, I don't think it's accurate to say that national forest management has become "national park" management.
