>SURVEY QUESTION: > >IS THE USE OF METHYL BROMIDE IN NURSERIES CONSISTENT WITH ECOLOGICALLY SOUND >PRINCIPLES? > > >PLEASE RESPOND TO ME DIRECTLY WITH A SIMPLE YES OR NO ANSWER. [RESULTS] 15 No 6 Yes 14 from United States: 4 from Australia: 3 from Canada I believe this is about a 3% return rate. I have been told these results are likely highly biased. However, I do not know for sure if they are highly biased towards "No" or highly biased towards "Yes." I conclude from this survey that there are at least a few netters who would agree with me that use of methyl bromide in tree nurseries is not "consistant with ecologically sound principles." I thought about this some and conclude that the main reason I recommend the use of methyl bromide in nurseries is for economic reasons. There are alternatives that are either less effective or more expensive. David South School of Forestry Auburn University, AL 36849-5418 dsouth@forestry.auburn.edu 205-844-1022 205-844-1084 (FAX)
