Colleagues,
Hannu Saarenmaa and I would like to invite recipients of these lists to
consider joining another mailing list. This new list is operated by IUFRO
Division 4, Section 11, Working Party 3, INFORMATION MANAGEMENT. This
working party is concerned with the storage, manipulation, transmission, and
application of "information". In this context, we interpret "information"
in the broadest sense, including data, information, and knowledge in *all*
their forms.
We expect that this mailing list will serve as a forum for the sharing and
distribution of ideas, discussions, new technologies, working party
business, meeting announcements, software, manuscripts, and any other
gee-whiz stuff that may be of interest to the readership.
We are in the process of sifting through some old, paper-mailing lists for
S4.11-03, with the intent of eventually making all mailings entirely
electronic. All previous S4.11-03 members will be contacted by paper mail
and urged to join the electronic list. If you have been a past member of
IUFRO 4.11-03 and expect to receive a paper mailing first, we would still
urge you subscribe to this electronic mailing list now. We will reconcile
our old list and our new list at some time in the near future.
To join the S4.11-03 mailing list, send a mail message to the mail server at
"majordomo@metla.fi". The content of the message should contain:

You will receive a confirmation return message along with a second message
that provides instructions for using the mailing list.
