Not to defend any glutonous behavior by Californians or anyone else, but it
seems reasonable to ask the source of this consumption. For instance, is
it mostly housing construction and what percentage of new house
construction comes from California. Do Californians receive more junk mail
per capita than the rest of us? I bet they could be willing to receive the
same amount as a Hoosier. And what is their recyclin record? Besides, the
comparison of California to the rest of the US almost certainly pales in
commparison of the US to Africa, Asia or South America! As David says (by
inference):
